“Flamenco García Lorca” Film Season at Matadero Madrid (7–11 April)
4/1/2026
Cineteca Madrid offers the chance to enjoy the “Flamenco García Lorca” film season, organised in collaboration with the Federico García Lorca Foundation.
This programme proposes a visual journey through the mark left by the Granada‑born poet on film and on audiovisual avant‑gardes. It focuses on his relationship with flamenco, with Roma culture and with creative modernity. Federico García Lorca understood flamenco as a tragic and popular form of knowledge, shaped by the body, conflict and history.
Through documentaries, stage recordings and experimental pieces, the season sets up a dialogue between the ethnographic portraits of the post‑war years and the formal explorations of filmmakers such as José Val del Omar. Theatrical and political echoes from the 1960s and 1970s also appear. Together they form a series of images, resonances and fragments that present flamenco as a living force, traversed by collective history, poetry and the avant‑garde.
