Zorongo

"Zorongo" is a popular Andalusian dance and singing. Its metric is ternary. The most famous is the one that Federico García Lorca (playing piano) and La Argentinita (singing) recorded in 1931. It is not strictly a flamenco style, but as it is also Andalusian style, it is easy to play it in a flamenco way.

For more than a century, this style dissolved in other genres its main elements up to its disappearance from the Andalusian music scene.

The "zorongo" was widely used as dancing in times of "tonadilla" in the 18th century. Perhaps this style derived from the "zarabanda" and "zarandillo", as in one of the most famous songs, the word "zorondo" appears. It seems that this was one of the original dances of “zambra” groups in the Sacromonte (Granada).
