Saeta

„Saeta” is a flamenco singing style without guitar accompaniment. It belongs to free songs group. Its origin is in the Andalusian folklore.

 

It has a religious and improvised character. It is performed without accompaniment in Easter religious parades. Melody is free and text composed by several octosyllabic verses. It has a religious character and text refers to facts and the characters of Christ Passion.

 

Original “saeta” was sung in Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz) and was accompanied by basic wind instruments, built by these singers.
