Media granaína

“Media granaína" is a flamenco style whose singing has the same "copla" as “granaína”, which belongs to “cantes de Levante” group. It is finer and brighter than “granainas” and is a creation attributed to Antonio Chacón.

 

José Blas Vega exposed his theory about its origin and development:

 

“Granaína" was a style not really interesting for Antonio Chacon. His anxious temperament and musical condition prompted him to develop the base of this singing in order to create another style with a more acoustic value. He used to say:

 

"I can't call it “granaina”, but “media granaína”, a name which was imposed in flamenco world. Vallejo extended extremly “media granaína” of Chacon, motivating the same impulse in other singers, who as a way to impress the audience exceeded in the final stretch thirds. In contrast to this musical degeneration which has continued up to our times, we recommend to listen Chacón's musical nuance and sensitivity in these songs ".
