Mirabrás
“Mirabrás” is a flamenco singing that belongs to “cantinas” group. The same that happens with all the styles deriving from “cantiñas”, "mirabrás" comes from “soleares” dance with a lightened, undulating, vibranting, lively and elegant rhythm. For some authors,“mirabrás” is one of the most important dance singing.
There are some theories about “mirabrás” origin. The most relevant is the one that locates its birth in the early 19th century, in the form of festive dances in the Andalusian folklore. There is another theory, which considers its appearance as a derivation from Aragonese “jota”, through "jota de Cadiz".
Currently, “mirabrás” is not very famous between singers. Among those who keep on singing this is Rafael Romero "El Gallina", a native gypsy from Andújar (Jaén).
