Fandango (dance)
“Fandango” is an old "palo" of flamenco dancing.
Flamenco art has adopted since 19th century traits of Andalusian fandangos, giving rise to "fandangos aflamencados" which are today considered as one of the most important flamenco styles.
“Fandango” can be possible the most varied flamenco expression. The one which comes from "bailes del candil" (dancing around an oil lamp) is specially important in Andévalo (Huelva). In Malaga, there exist “verdiales”, which can be considered as the original form of this style. In Murcia, Almería, Alicante, Albacete and Menorca, is better known as "malagueña". There is also a version in the area near Granada. In Almería, it is known as "fandanguillo". Fandango in La Alpujarra is represented in the typical dance of “Trovo”.
