Cantiñas

"Cantiñas" are a group of “palos” flamencos which are characteristic of Cadiz, Los Puertos (Cádiz, San Fernando, Chiclana, Puerto Real, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda) and Jerez de la Frontera.

 

These “palos” are “alegrías, “romeras”, “mirabrás”, “caracoles”, “rosas” and "cantiñas". Metrics is the beat of “soleá”, but in a faster tempo because of its festive character.

 

Melodies are tonal and preserve motives and phrases from popular songs of this area which were typical of "Guerra de la Independencia Española" (Spanish independence war"). An example of this is "jota" from Cádiz.
